Fire causes fatal burns at Wildorado dairy farm

Elizabeth Ozee, 19, died after attempting to save her father Ben F. Ozee, 48, from a gas explosion at their dairy near Wildorado. J L Gantt, brother-in-law, suffered severe hand burns. The incident occurred when a gas heater in a sterilizing room exploded after the door was closed to fumes. The father died Monday morning. Elizabeth died Monday night. Funeral plans were pending.

Doctor Flies to Shamrock for Appendicitis Operation

An airplane sped Dr. D. L. Garrett of Tulsa to Shamrock Texas to operate on Mrs. Earl Jackson for appendicitis. He arrived within two hours and forty minutes of the call and returned to Tulsa in the same plane the same night.

Chicago Aug 18 The death of State Senator John T Joyce remains a mystery after his widow testified at a coroners inquest that anonymous calls Friday asked if she knew her husband had been shot The sister in law Edward Joyce and Mrs Joyce blamed enemies who allegedly poisoned Joyce fearing his grand jury testimony on election day violence in the 42nd ward The inquest continues as chemical test results are awaited

Alleged Murder Plot Motive Tied to Gambling and Liquor

Sheriff Cahoon says three Florida men conspired to kill Governor Carlton to gain control of east coast gambling and liquor. Fred O. Capt Baker Joins Caterpillar Club at Bolling Field

Capt Tra C Baker, one of the army's crack pilots, earned the Caterpillar Club at Bollingfield when his plane failed and he bailed out. The aircraft wrecked but Baker survived with minor injuries. He previously served on the Question Mark crew when the endurance record was set on the west coast two years earlier.

Anna Wrather Dies on Coast Pioneer of Amarillo

Quitaque Girl Drowned as Flood Waters Sweep Creek

In Plainview area Floyd County a six foot flood surged down a creek five miles from Quitaque. Miss Alvie Roach, 18, drowned after entangling on a wire fence, while Mina Stella Adama and her father John Adams were rescued. A warning was shouted but wind drowned the voice. other incidents included lightning strikes and minor injuries from a feather bed shock.

Rainfall Report Across Panhandle Areas

Scattered showers and a light rain fell Monday between Amarillo and Clarendon, with an inch at Conway early Monday. Additional showers occurred at Tascosa in the afternoon. Texas Woman Slain With Ax Near Brenham in Tragic Row

Mia Travia Smith, 40, was killed with an ax at her Brenham area home. Cevalos Ben, a Black man, was shot and killed by Smith, a former tick inspector. Sheriff H L Reese found Ben dead. coroner’s verdict pending. Smith formerly Miss Olivia Schwickert.

Son of F P Works dies in army plane crash in Honolulu

Lieutenant Maurice M. Works aged 29 was fatally injured when a single motor army pursuit plane failed to land after trouble. He tried an emergency landing but the craft wrecked and his neck was broken. He died at a plantation hospital. Survived by four sisters and a brother. parents live in Amarillo Texas. He grew up in Amarillo, studied at Texas A and M College, and trained at Kelly Field before being stationed in Honolulu.
