A new type super powered radar will be installed at the U S Weather Bureau in Amarillo this fall. The radar will cover 250 miles and track storms across the station area. Four extra staff will join to improve storm analysis. The unit, the third of its kind in the United States, will be mounted on a 90 foot tower near the Air Terminal. Similar stations are planned for Galveston Lake Charles New Orleans and Fort Worth.
A record power failure cut service to about 500 city blocks affecting 500000 residents in the Central Park corridor and extending into the Bronx Queens and Brooklyn. Con Ed mobilized 10000 repair crews as heat and humidity worsened disruption to subways traffic lights elevators and hospital operations. The outage began shortly before 3 p.m. with seven feeder lines burned out and others shut down to prevent further damage.

The Kennedy bill opposes this right, while House language permits it. Business calls to Washington are urged as the conferees may strike the provision.
