Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine, endurance pilots, landed at 6 30 a m CST Sunday to end a long grind unexpectedly. Crowds were startled as observers suspected a crankcase crack and oil leak during the flight ending in St Louis.
William Pickens, managing Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine, said the endurance flight champions landed this morning due to lack of financial support being provided to the flight.
The pilots Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine, after 647 hours in the air, faced motor trouble and an oil leak that halted their long grind. Mechanics found no crank case crack. The oil smeared plane and motor, startling about 500 sleepy observers. They radioed ground crew before landing and taxied to a hangar.
Eddie Schmeiber an 18 year old flyer aiming for a junior trans continental record was forced to land near Anton Chico about 100 miles east of Albuquerque while flying from Wichita Kansas to Albuquerque. He planned to stay overnight at Anton Chico and resume at daybreak for Albuquerque with an expected arrival around 6 30 a m MST.
Interstate commerce commission grants the Burlington provisional authority to construct a Pampa to Childress railroad linking with Fort Worth & Denver Northern. Joint work with Rock Island required between Shamrock and Wellington and from Wellington to a southeast junction. Construction must start by January 1, 1931 and finish by December 31, 1932.
Edgar A. Ben dele, 23, was found hanging in a barn at his home in Temple on August 18. Neighbors located him and officers tried resuscitation but he died shortly after.
An air circus accident at Grand Saline Texas left Jewell Phillips 21 of Grand Saline dead and R B Kuteman 31 from Lovefield Dallas and Polk Dickerson 19 of Grand Saline fatally injured. The open cockpit biplane fell 200 feet, demolished after the crash.
Mrs Thursey Josephine Trolinger, 77, died early Sunday in Amarillo. Born in Tennessee in 1853, she and her husband Andrew M. Trolinger settled here in 1903 and contributed to civic and religious life. Survived by five sons and four daughters, with several sons active in local business and church affairs. The family has long been prominent in Amarillo society and a continuation note refers to continued obituary details on page 8.
A plane crash near Lipone Corners between Annapolis and Baltimore killed two men James Rupert of Jessups and Francis Beal of Dorsey Station. Pilot Marshall Talbott, 21, died in the wreck after the craft, reportedly unlicensed, burned. The pilot was hospitalized in critical condition.
In the run up to the Democratic gubernatorial nominating race Ross Sterling and James E. Ferguson map broad Texas schedules with speeches from Gainesville to Galveston while Governor Dan Moody campaigns from Nacogdoches to Austin. A panhandle blitz leads to a Friday Amarillo rally and extensive radio broadcasts as the field presses for a big turnout.
Gladys O'Donnell of Long Beach was first off at 6:31 p m for the nine day race to Chicago with Marjorie Doig of Danbury Conn following a minute later in the Women s National Air Derby at Long Beach California. Jean Le Rene of Chicago and Ruth Stewart of St Louis also started among six entrants in the opening leg with Mildred Morgan of Beverly Hills close behind.
Harold W. English announced preparations for the women aviators arrival at English Field on August 21 22. A crowd of about 20 000 is expected for the airport dedication and to see the nation’s famous fliers. Events include dances banquet night wedding ceremony stunting and airplane show.
A female contestant led the first lap of the Women’s National Air Derby toward Chicago with about 80 miles remaining in the leg.

A woman attempts to rescue two infants from a blaze but is unable to save them. Fire crews battled the flames, securing the scene and extinguishing the fire as investigators begin inquiries into the cause.
Near Portales New Mexico heroic mother Mia D. Horn and her three children Mrew Junior 8 Robert 5 and Doris 7 died in a blaze that engulfed their two room farm home three miles southwest of Rogers Sunday morning. Nell 15 tried to reach the Strickland home for church plans but returned to witness the fire as the east room door closed trapping the victims. The coroner ruled accidental death.
G D Rigdon is in St. Anthony's Hospital with possible internal injuries after a collision at Fourth and Taylor. Henry Jefferson, negro, is charged with negligent driving after the accident occurred shortly before 10 o'clock Sunday night. Jefferson told police he did not see Rigdon until after turning the corner.
An oil well of the C C Julian Oil and Royalty Company broke loose in a north Oklahoma City residential area. Residents fled as 175 barrels of oil per hour and 50 million cubic feet of gas per day spilled into the cellar. Fire crews guarded the site while masters gates were opened to relieve pressure.
