State police used clubs to break up a white mob of about 75 as they attacked 25 civil rights marchers in Satsuma Louisiana. The incident was reported along with national Civil Rights legislation advancing to the Senate and other items across the page.
An ordinance passed Thursday creates a special volunteer police force for Amarillo. the mayor will supervise the unit instead of the city manager. Also notes a Sky Jugglers 25th reunion for World War II Panhandle Naval Air Squadron gathered at the Downtown Motor Inn. A San Antonio man faces homicide charges after a fatal incident described in a separate brief.

Phyllis reported seeing a stranger and the mother fleeing as the father lay slain. Investigators have no suspects no motive and no murder weapon as they search for clues. The bodies of James Peterson Evelyn Peterson and seven children aged 1 to 17 were found after about seven hours.
A Rhode Island Red rooster abandoned in Memorial Park Cemetery near U S 287 in east Amarillo last month has formed an unlikely bond with the cemetery ducks. The bird now waddles and sticks with its new avian friends, while workers note no report on its swimming skills.
Flood waters began to ebb slowly in Fairbanks Alaska where half the population is homeless and business is paralyzed. About 14000 refugees are in evacuation centers and another 1000 flown out. Damage stands around 200 million dollars with three dead.
Two 20 year olds Jerry Galindo and Arturo Garcia died after a game in a warehouse went wrong. Garcia died Friday after being tied to a wooden column during a Cowboys and Indians game. Galindo faces a homicide charge and possible prison term, saying the incident began as a boyish frolic.
