Public Works grants approved for school projects in several states
Fort Worth reports that Public Works Administration grants in Colorado, Kansas, and Louisiana support public school improvements. The largest grant, 234,810 dollars for a Bossier City high and colored school remodeling to become an elementary, raises the project total to 521,800 dollars. Increases were announced for several projects, including Portales courthouse and jail from 81,818 to 89,183 dollars.

State Institution Bids To Come in Austin and Waco

DUMAS Aug 16 A gasoline engine sparked fumes that ignited at Magnolia’s C. R. Jones No 2 gas well in Moore County causing a major blaze. The well near Sunray produced 200 barrels of oil and up to 50 million cubic feet of sour gas daily. Injuries to two cleanup crew members and the farm boss were treated locally before transfers. Firefighters placed a four inch steam line and planned to clear debris and flood the fire. nitroglycerin was listed as a possible measure if steam fails. Spectators watched as grasshoppers and insects swarmed into the blaze.
