35 Killed 2 Hurt In Blazing Tanker Crash
Three Amarillo residents died and two were seriously injured in a fiery crash at the St Francis Avenue and Lakeside Drive intersection 5:15 p.m. Saturday. Victims include Mrs. W P Weatherly and her grandson Dean Weatherly, both from Calahan Street, and truck driver Robert Gouge of Dahlia Street. Mrs. Weatherly’s daughter-in-law Isabelle Weatherly remained in critical condition. Paul Gouge, 7, was treated and released. The tanker from Allen Plumbing Co. of Amarillo overturned after striking the Weatherly car, igniting fuel inside the cab. Authorities investigated the scene and noted the Weatherly top sheared off and the tanker left on its left side. Firefighters extinguished the blaze. crash details continued on Page 2.
