Thieves Set Record Over Weekend
A record number of felony thefts and burglaries were reported Sunday at police headquarters. More than 1450 dollars in cash and merchandise vanished during a weekend spree including eight newspaper vending machines. Det. Lt. Eli Leflar said the weekend set the highest burglary and theft total on record, with Friedman Iron and Metal Co. hit hardest at 301 N Grand where 526.79 dollars disappeared from a filing cabinet. Entry was made by breaking a rear north door and the cabinet was found smashed Sunday morning. A cash register was stolen from May's Texico Service Station at 4600 Block Washington.
