After Senate passage on Friday the bill awaits the President's signature to officially designate the Sanford Dam reservoir as Lake Meredith in honor of the late A A Meredith a leader in the dam project.
The rest of the world reports that peace efforts in the Dominican Republic may hinge on Sunday. The Organization of American States may recall its mission if no clear progress is shown by then. In other news, auto makers insist new car tires remain safe when inflations are managed and loads are heavy. Five Navy aircraft were lost in armed reconnaissance over North Vietnam, the U.S. confirms. Mrs Mary Cawein of Lexington Kentucky is listed as homicide by the coroner after being found in a bed.
National Guardsmen were ordered to enter a Negro area as three days of turbulence climaxed with the first killing, Deputy Sheriff Ronald F. Ludiow, 27, shot in the stomach. Three other fatalities followed as officers reported more dead. the guard prepared to mobilize up to 2,000 troops to quell looting and arson across the city.
Chicago police for the second night faced a violent disturbance on the west side where a Black woman was killed Thursday. About 100 youths gathered, windows were broken, four officers injured, and as many as 30 people, mostly teenagers, were held. Federal agents observed the scene while canine units stood by and crowds chanted. An ongoing riot report noted “burn burn burn” and several participants shouted attacks on white residents.
Lexington coroner ruled the July 4 socialite death of Mrs Mary Cawein a homicide. An autopsy found carbolic acid and alcohol with puncture marks, suggesting poisoning. Cawein, 39, wife of De Madson Cawein, a University of Kentucky researcher. Her death followed a quarrel with neighbors the Strothers after a July 4 party. Police reported no imminent arrests as the investigation proceeds.
Saigon reports two U.S. Navy pilots killed after a Navy aircraft was downed during armed reconnaissance missions over Vietnam. Details on the incident and location remain sparse, with confirmation ongoing from military sources.
Amarillo starts a combined Parade of Homes and Home Products Show at 7200 Jameson Road Belmar Addition. Thirteen new homes on one city block open at 1 p m with a ribbon cutting at 5 p m. Parade runs through August 22. Story on page 2.

Washington AP report notes Secretary of Navy Paul H. Nitze ordered all regular Navy and Marine Corps enlistments extended four months. The move relies on having Defense Secretary approval, a power not available to the Army or Air Force without Congress.

In Austin AP report attorney Perry L Jones on James C Cross Jr says a state appointed psychiatrist may have been present when Cross gave police a statement. Cross 22 UT student is charged with strangling Susan Rigsby and Shirley Ann Stark both 21 from Dallas on July 18. Authorities say the killings were sexually motivated. A defense psychiatrist has seen Cross at least twice. No sanity hearing decision yet.
In Huntington West Virginia 14 year old Barbara Burdett earned high regard for bravery after climbing a 60 foot power line tower to rescue Aaron Lloyd Shirkey who dangled from a live 000 volt line near Culloden. Barbara used quick action to smother flames and pull him to safety as onlookers shouted.
