The body of 17-year-old Stephen Wasserman, heir from an eastern family, was found at about 11,500 feet on Mount Whitney near Mirror Lake. No sign of climbing companion Christopher Smith Reynolds. Slaying Confessed in Roberta Rinearson Case in Chicago
George Lettrich Jr., 36, unemployed, signed a statement admitting the sex slaying of Roberta Rinearson, 10, after a six hour lie detector test. The confession ends a 19 month manhunt with 3,000 questioned and 5,000 fliers sent nationwide. Roberta’s body was found December 18, 1948, near a cemetery between Chicago and Elmhurst. she was raped, beaten, gagged, and strangled. Lettrich denied rape, saying he took indecent liberties but did not assault her as described.

One man died and another in critical condition after a car overturned near Matador on State Highway 70. Truman Dillard, 31, manager of Bob's Oilwell Filling Station, died.
