Chicago Aug 13 The American Medical Association warned Ralph S Willard Los Angeles chemist about reviving a human icicle deeming it a vicious hoax. Willard retorted that the AMA spokesman Morris Fishbein spoke without knowledge. In Hollywood Stephen Simkhovitch 34 pledged not to break law while pursuing an ice box revival experiment under Willard to prove diseases can be eliminated by freezing.
A daytime armed robbery occurred in Amarillo as truck driver J. R. Dever of H. A. Marr Grocery Company was robbed of about 40 dollars on Rusk Street near Polk Street. Dever was approached by an unmasked assailant about 3 PM. A court order was issued in the opening war against race bookies.
Fort Worth reports Judge A J Powers of the 96th District Court ordered 47 gallons of assorted liquors seized in a ranger raid returned to the Shamrock Bar after a hearing. The ruling contends the district attorney's office was restrained in enforcing liquor laws.
Plainview July-August 13 Panhandle Firemen's Association elects Bill Foley of Plainview as president Charles Stewart of Claude as vice president and re elects Quincey Wilson of Vernon secretary Burkburnett chosen as 1936 convention site.
Ten year old Howard Marshall was crushed by a nearly one ton rock while his 15 year old brother J G Marshall escaped and summoned relief workers. Howard died at the scene and funeral services were set for the afternoon. The brothers, sons of John Marshall, were picnicking in a pit when the rock fell.
Governor Alfred launches action to shut down horse race bookie networks by court order. District Judge C A Wheeler bars Daily Racing Form Publishing Co Texas News Service and AT and T Southwestern Bell from gathering or disseminating wagering related information and prohibits circulation of the Daily Racing Form. Telephone firms banned from providing equipment.
Senator Huey Long announced his 602 Mississippi share our wealth societies would take no part in the Mississippi gubernatorial contest. He said he could not make the race a Huey Long and share our wealth issue and noted Paul B. Johnson declined his backing.
A plan proposed at Evanston to unite the Northern and Southern factions of the Methodist Episcopal Church could heal a schism dating back 91 years. If accepted, the reunited church would become the nation’s strongest Protestant body with about 7 million members. The split arose from the slavery issue.
Washington Aug 15 The pursuit of Howard C Hopson over weeks ends as he appears to be served with a House subpoena after a tense chase by House and Senate investigators. Authority figures deny any obstruction while Hopson rests briefly at a hotel before private security guards reportedly relocate him.
Tom Barnes and J M Edmonson of Texas Power and Light were robbed by three armed men in downtown Waco as they headed to deposit money. The bandits, one separating from a dark blue or black 1932 V-8 Ford, forced the pair to return to their office after taking 1600 in currency and checks.
