Two veteran lawmakers Norris of Nebraska and Robinson of Arkansas won party nominations in key primaries. Alfred E. Smith backer Norris captured the Nebraska Republican nomination, while Robinson secured the Arkansas Democratic nomination with overwhelming support.

Unsettled conditions for Amarillo and vicinity with a partly cloudy Thursday and possible local thundershowers in extreme west Texas. New Mexico outlook is generally fair with possible showers and thunderstorms in the north-central portion. Temperature figures for yesterday include a maximum around 92 degrees and a low near 68.
The National Women's Air Derby for large type planes starts August 17 in Long Beach and ends nine days later in Chicago. Entrants include Ruth Elder Gladys O'Donnell Claire Fahy Florence Lowe Barnes Bobbie Trout Edith Weltz Vera Dawn Walker and Louise Thaden among others. The route runs from Long Beach to Chicago with stops in Calexico Phoenix Tucson Lordsburg Lubbock Amarillo Enid Wichita Kansas City Des Moines Elgin Madison before final in Chicago.
The German Opera Company with Madame Johanna Gadski will give three performances at the Municipal Auditorium in Amarillo next February under the Tri-State Fair. The 150-artist company includes 54 musicians. Max Von Schillings will direct. Fra Wagner operas Die Walküre and Der Fliegende Holländer anchor the program with Tiefland between them. Amarillo will be the smallest U S city on their American tour this season.
The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce seeks authorization for at least two air mail routes. A transcontinental line to be operated by Western Air Express and T. A. T. Maddux, and a north south route for Midcontinent Air Express are the two main projects under consideration. Continued on Page 13, Col. 3.
The British airship R-100 lifted from its mooring at St Hubert Airport bound for England on the return Atlantic crossing. Squadron Leader Booth led a 15 journalist and Canadian officer group aboard, with 44 crew. Officials expect a 48 hour crossing aided by favorable tail winds.
Dale Red Jackson and Forest Obie O Brine in the Greater St. Louis monoplane set new refueling endurance marks at Lambert Field. After breaking the record at 9 52 am they aimed to reach 1000 hours as an oil company pledged 100 per hour. Crowds cheered in the rain as the pilots, flying at 2400 feet, said they might stay aloft for months.
Mrs F P K Atkinson of Childress is in Northwest Texas hospital with a fractured shoulder after an automobile accident near Bushland Tuesday. Husband Mr Atkinson, Rexall Drug owner, and niece Elizabeth Buster suffered minor cuts and bruises. Mrs Atkinson is sister of Mrs C V Vernon of Childress.
Attorney General R L Bobbitt will address supporters on the courthouse lawn at 8:15 in Amarillo Thursday night. The speech will be broadcast on WDAG and he is introduced by Judge A L Morgan. Bobbitt has earned broad endorsement from the Amarillo Bar Association.
James F. Ferguson climbed onto the Caprock near Floydada Texas to urge support for his wife Ma Ferguson in the governor race. He pressed opponents as he recounted past campaigns and noted the split in the run off while praising West Texas support.
Announcement last night stated J. W. Mode division superintendent of the Fort Worth and Denver railroad supports Ross Sterling in the run off election. Mode had previously introduced Jim Ferguson in Amarillo several weeks earlier.
Senator Walter Woodward quieted a heckler during the Ross Sterling rally as about 2,000 in attendance applauded. Woodward suggested the heckler or family might be pardoned by Ferguson, then urged decorum. Sterling shed his coat, spoke in plain terms about his farm beginnings, and appeared as a plain citizen.
Paul Montgomery a 25 year old aviator confessed he was hired by two or three men to pilot a bombing raid over the Providence Kentucky coal field early Monday. He says one of the men accompanied him on the trip and the confession is with the department of justice and county authorities.
Charles Hassold a 65 year old farmer was found dead in his Taft home yard with his throat cut and a butcher knife nearby. His wife Mrs Hassold was hospitalized with serious wounds and two Mexican men were injured by gunfire as she fled into a house. Coroner Will Frank ruled death from knife wounds. Authorities investigated possible accomplices and extradition orders from Kentucky.
Capt. Frank M. Hawks set a new transcontinental air speed record, flying Glendale, California to Curtiss Field in 12 hours 25 minutes three seconds. He beat Col and Mrs Lindbergh’s earlier mark by over two hours, with refueling stops at Albuquerque Wichita and Indianapolis.
Robert Lee Bobbitt incumbent attorney general will address Amarillo voters Thursday at 8 30 p m from courthouse lawn. The speech will be broadcast with Porter Underwood presiding and Judge A L Morgan introducing him. Bobbitt became AG in 1929 after Claude Pollard’s resignation. he faces Jimmy Allred who was defeated by Pollard in the 1926 primary.
Hundreds from across trades filled the Amarillo rally as Ross Sterling and Senator Walter Woodward pressed their bid for Texas governor against Ma Ferguson. The day featured sharp criticism of Jim Ferguson with strong endorsements from allied leaders.
Senator Walter Woodward of Coleman said Clint Small will stump for Sterling in the Panhandle after a Houston engagement. Small plans to return to Amarillo to campaign for Sterling, with Woodward noting his influence will greatly aid the effort.
Sterling denounces Ferguson as a liar amid charges of pardons and bribery tied to East Texas banks. Woodward accuses Ferguson of no credit for the Small land bill as Sterling appeals to voters in Amarillo with a call for honesty in government.
Mr. Sterling and Senator Wood ward speak at multiple stops across the Panhandle. The itinerary includes Canyon Happy Tulsa Crosbyton and a night meeting in Lubbock with campaign manager James O. Gulerie.
