Bever Indicted In Wood Slaying

Harry Ralph Bever alias Edwards of Kansas City was indicted on a murder charge in the killing of Clint C. Wood a Amarillo caseman. Wood died from a small caliber pistol shot at his home on 303 Alabama Street with two bullets recovered from the body. The pistol and bullets were sent to an FBI laboratory. Bever is also wanted by the FBI for bank robbery escape and transporting a stolen car across a state line.

Third War Loan Army Show Set For Amarillo

The Army Show is rescheduled to Sept 20 at Amarillo Army Air Field to honor bond buyers. Tickets go to bond purchasers at rate per 25 dollars and four per 100, with county chairs ordering tickets via E Byron Singleton. The one night performance features stars from civilian life now stationed there and is free to supporters of the Third War Loan.

Watering of Amarillo lawns prompts heavy usage warnings

Amarillo residents rushed to water lawns before the city’s water ban, pumping about 1,000,000 gallons per hour at peak. Water Supt. Moss urged cooperation as a waterless day was declared with no garden watering until 8 pm tomorrow. City officials warned reserves were low and pressure fragile.

50 Trailers For Amarillo Approved By Housing Agency

The National Housing Agency approved a plan for Amarillo to receive 50 trailer or portable shelter units for employees of the American Zinc Smelter. Amarillo housing chief Arthur Truitt said the proposal, discussed last night, places the trailers in the northwest area of the city soon. Also noted, Guy McSwain, superintendent of the Texas Company Refinery, remained unconscious in St. Anthony's Hospital after a fall from a horse Monday night.
