A 2-year-old boy John Santos Sosa Jr and his 8 month old sister Mary Stella Sosa died when a car they rode in burned near Tulia. Funeral plans were to be announced.

A 6 year old boy Mark Fox from Carthage rode a Frisco freight train north of Joplin instructing no one and causing a brief halt. Trainmen turned him over to his father Lawrence Fox who said the boy simply wanted to take a ride.
The tourism and convention committee of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce rejected a plan by Emmett F. and James F. Rittenberry and Associates to enlarge the Municipal Auditorium into a full convention center with 3 600 seats and an estimated cost about one third of a new building. The group also discussed trailer park adequacy and deferred action on a proposed house trailer ordinance. A subcommittee was formed to welcome Indoor Sports Association guests on August 17.
Washington AP The House wades into a bare knuckle fight over labor control legislation with a three bill contest led by Eisenhower backed measures and a rival AFL-CIO labor backed plan. The chamber braces for a tense vote as Republicans and southern Democrats press their position while northern Democrats defend the union favored bill.
