In Livingston on August 1 a mob of officers detained over a dozen Black men while police narrowed a case of a wealthy white woman assaulted in her home. The victim described a barefoot intruder who slashed and threatened to kill her with a knife as her two sons slept nearby. Police used footprints and fingerprints to aid identification.
Bakersfield report states geologist Harry Condon verified ore in the El Paso range west of Red Rock Canyon may yield helium gas. Ore lies near Josie Bishop’s property where radium deposits were recently noted. A field check was sent to the area this afternoon. Helium production is currently concentrated in Texas.
Earl Turner, 34, arrested while working as a painter under the alias Bob Massie, held for Dallas Ga. officers as an escapee from a chain gang. Detective Chet Sherman said Turner was convicted of murder and admitted his identity.
Partly cloudy Thursday in Amarillo and across West Texas and New Mexico. Temperature highs near 100 Fahrenheit yesterday's values ranged across the 70s to 90s with a precipitation total of 0.13 inches in the past 24 hours ending 4 p.m. yesterday.

Borger police pursue a hit and run suspect after James R. Parker a 59 year old oil well driller is fatally struck and dragged to a downtown curb. Witnesses Jenkins and Red Broom describe a sedan with two tail lights and a spare tire white side wall. Parker left home at 5 pm and was last seen at a news stand before the fatal impact. He leaves a widow two sons and mother. Body at Carver funeral home.
A Santa Fe Chamber of Commerce meeting is called for tomorrow to confer with Governor Clyde Tingley about a state highway from Las Vegas to Tucumcari via Conchas Dam. Delegates from the district include Leon Sands George A. Eager Roy H. Smith and A B Hickinson.
Henry A Gascon, 56, a newspaper and advertising man on the national advertising staff of the Dallas Journal, died at his Dallas home.
ST LOUIS Aug 11 UPI City Hospital and police disclosed a 12 year old girl gave birth on Tuesday to a baby girl and both mother and child are well. A 35 year old man was arrested on suspected criminal assault and admitted paternity. parents said they knew nothing of the pregnancy.
Ernest H. Lupher of Amarillo, Santa Fe engineer, died in Shattuck Oklahoma hospital after head trauma when his locomotive struck a mail crane beside the track while pulling passenger train No. 9 through Tangier yesterday morning. Fireman Crews stopped the train, moved Lupher to the hospital, and the engine was piloted to Amarillo. Lupher, in Santa Fe service about 35 years, leaves a widow and children, with funeral plans to be announced.
Motions for new trials were filed in Morgan County circuit court for three Scottsboro defendants convicted last month of rape after an alleged mass attack on two white women. Judge W. W. Callahan scheduled August 28 for hearings on the petitions.
Cattle market prospects in Kansas City point to a very active stocker and feeder season within three months as southwestern producers sell calves and yearlings for September and October delivery. In Anderson County Palestine resident Thomas Mitchell Campbell Ti 16 died from the illness, a second fatality in the county, his grandfather a former Texas governor.
The Panhandle Plains delegation cancels the farmers short course after preparations by Panhandle farmers and 4-H youths. Four-H winners were to receive free trips. one master farmer from each district qualified. Dr. B M Primer Amarillo health director reports one infantile paralysis case in 12 months from a family arriving from Oklahoma.
The Senate defeated a move to sidetrack the Wagner anti lynching bill by 35 to 27. The chamber over rode administration leaders attempted adjournment and moved to keep the bill unfinished. A later recess motion passed 36 to 23 as leadership debated next steps.
Premier Mussolini addressed about 100000 Sicilians in Catania declaring that Italy must intensify preparation of the people for military life as the cornerstone of its doctrine and spirit.
In Brenham Vince Ross's murder trial for the slaying of R. W. Albert, a Brenham salesman, advanced to the closing argument stage as of August 11.
In an early-morning crash two were killed and two injured two miles east of Albany when a car driven by Gertrude Barnes veered onto a soft shoulder and overturned four times. The deceased are Gertrude Barnes 22 and Zelina Syms of Dallas. Injured are Mrs. Zelina Syms's mother Mrs. F E l Tacker and sister-in-law Mrs. Lester Tacker of Dallas. The group was en route to New Mexico. Barnes’s sister Catherine 15 was uninjured. The bodies remain in Albany.

The wage and hour bill faces delay as Southern legislators push loans, while Cox opposes rule for debate. Secretary Wallace warns of costs and potential treasury losses if loans and subsidies expand.
French army air bombers and troops struck back at an open rebellion in Deir el Zor region. Airplanes bombed three villages where rebels had set up headquarters while Beirut command sent motorized infantry to restore order. Rebels plundered Amouda and shot at two officers attempting to intervene.

Rep. William P. Lambertson of Kansas called Rules Committee Chair John O'Connor “just an Irishman” sparking a House uproar over the wage and hour bill. O'Connor, proud of his Irish descent, defended his stance while Democrats cheered. Lambertson attempted clarification but was rebuked as O'Connor asserted his American identity and support for the measure.
