Lawyers renew their bid to save Clyde Durbin Jr. in the double slaying of a University of Texas couple. Durbin, 22, a UT dropout, worked in a Dallas laboratory when the killings occurred in January. The defense plans psychiatric testimony to argue mental illness at the time, while prosecutors note no motive and that Durbin denied rape.

SAN ANTONIO AP Eight Bexar county prisoners aged 18 to 29 were booked for murder in the beating death of Michael B Perkins 24 of San Antonio. One inmate alleged a pattern of beatings and mistreatment leading to his death, with another victim treated and released.
An unidentified Amarillo woman was missing and presumed drowned at Lake Meredith in the Evans Canyon area. Search operations by boat had been halted but were set to resume at about 8 a.m. with park rangers, the Moon County sheriff, and Fritch marshall. No more details available.
AP reported heavy U S Marine losses as North Vietnamese forces attacked two DMZ outposts. In the Dong Ha area a Marine platoon base endured a dawn siege with mortars rockets and grenades. 36 Marines killed and 97 wounded across the two camps.
Los Angeles police say they are seeking a second suspect in the ritualistic slayings at Sharon Tate's Bel Air home. Detective Lt. Helder notes the person may drive Roman Polanski's fire engine red Ferrari, currently unlocated. Miss Marlene Brunson of Elkhart Kansas and Marvin Gamble of Erick Oklahoma married in the High Plains Baptist Hospital chapel, the first wedding there since opening in February 1968.
