France Devalues Franc Amid Bankruptcy Threat
Paris AP France devalued the franc by 12 to 14 percent to halt rapid reserve losses of up to 500 million dollars a month in late 1968 and 200 million this year. President Pompidou warned of deflation would bring massive unemployment. The move lowers the franc to about 17.5 US cents and changes the dollar to 5.55419 francs.
