Marilyn Monroe was laid to rest at Westwood Memorial Cemetery as Joe DiMaggio bids a final farewell and kisses her lips beside the open casket. Police escorted mourners after the service while about 300 spectators watched the funeral procession and flowers being claimed from the mausoleum sprays.

President Kennedy has not decided on a tax reduction this year awaiting full economic data. He told AFL-CIO leaders he favors a prompt tax cut but believes Congress may reject it and plans a broad tax law revision next year. He spoke at a lunch with the 29 member AFL CIO executive council.
C T Johnson 65 president of the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority died after a heart attack at his Plainview home. An active civic leader since 1945 he served as CRMWA director since 1958 and began a new term Aug 1. He previously managed J C Penney stores in Plainview Memphis and other cities. Funeral Friday at First Methodist Church Chapel. Burial Plainview Memorial Park.
Hereford area irrigated farms advance toward a 25 million dollar vegetable harvest as about 7,000 laborers work across 12,000 to 15,000 acres. Cucumbers onions potatoes and lettuce drive a multi county bumper year, with strong prices supporting a regional economy in Amarillo trade territory.
Panhandle farmers who grow vegetables also raise wheat grain sorghum cotton and cattle. More than 600 semi-trailers operate daily in the irrigation belt and about 400 bob-tails ship from farms to packing terminals. Federal acreage controls or price supports are not used on Panhandle vegetables which are sold on supply and demand. Growers and packers say they prefer no federal supports or controls. The 1961 harvest yielded good quantities but prices fluctuated.
Weather readings compare Amarillo with other cities at 3 pm Wednesday. AMARILLO recorded 211 days of sun out of 220 in 1962 with wind 15 MPH and clear skies. Other stations show varied visibility and conditions including Houston Dallas and Oklahoma City.
