World flight nears Greenland amid ice perils

The twelve aviators attempting a circumnavigation faced increased danger as ice off Greenland threatened to halt the world flight. Peoria Publisher Pindell Dies of Heart Disease

Henry MM Pindell, Peoria Ill newspaper publisher and Democratic figure, died at his summer home in Northport Mich of heart disease after a 48 hour illness. Born December 23 1860 in St Joseph Missouri he was a delegate at large to the 1908 and 1912 Democratic National Conventions and was twice nominated in 1913 as Ambassador to Russia though he declined the post.

Atlantic City August 8 The American Federation of Labor executive council voted to attend General Calles inaugural in Mexico City on December 1. Calles and his party stayed three and a half hours in New York before sailing for Europe. The luncheon at the Ambassador Hotel featured remarks by Calles and Samuel Gompers, with most discussion in a private conference between Calles and Gompers.

Davis tells Gompers to use own judgment

New York Aug 8 Samuel Gompers president of the American Federation of Labor can go as far as he likes in public correspondence with John W. Davis the Democratic presidential nominee. Amarillo businessmen pledge aid to Tri-State Exposition

Seventy five Amarillo businessmen met at the Amarillo Hotel to back the Tri-State Exposition amid a serious funding shortfall. Ed Roberts and W O Gatten reported about $35 000 still needed to finish construction, with $22 000 in hand or due. A committee was named to raise the balance by bond sales, meeting Monday at 9 AM at the Longhorn club room.
