H B Chase Jr of New Orleans wins world crawfish eating title in a tourney where he devoured five buckets weighing about 60 pounds. Earlier George Hop Lutwy claimed speed crown by downing 100 crawfish in 2 minutes 36 seconds. Lutwy faces challenge from Percy Viosca as rivals question shell cleanliness. Chase notes he could continue but would save some for supper.
In Washington Angee Harding asks Congress to stay in session as rail unions plan a conference to respond to President’s latest settlement offer. M Jewell and William Johnston say locals urge rejection if talks fail, warning it could take railroads a year to rebuild equipment and that strike breakers are being recruited in Britain.

Aug 8 Chinatown District police guard Tong headquarters after Jeff Ko Low, president of the Hyp Sing Tong, was shot in a hallway last night and died hours later. Detectives and patrols monitor crowds fearing a renewed Tong wave that killed several people a decade ago.
Scattering unofficial returns from 81 precincts in eight Arkansas counties show Governor T. C. McRae leading with 1104 votes and E. P. Boney with 686. Early reports note an unusually heavy turnout, with Arkansas' normal Democratic vote around 160,000.
The Birmingham News and Birmingham Age Herald early editions predicted a decisive win for W. W. Brandon for governor based on scattered returns from about half the state’s counties. Charles S. McPhowell led for lieutenant governor in returns from 25 counties.

New York report says Arthur A. Gordon sought divorce from Nora Javes known as Eleanor Gordon. Detectives raided a private West End Avenue home at 6 am discovering Nora Bayes with Arthur Welton. Testimony described a locked bedroom and threats to force entry. Witnesses said Gordon planned divorce and accused Welton, a former friend, of misconduct. Bayes, vaudeville performer and former Mrs Gordon, had married Gordon in 1920.
An Associated Press report from New Haven states Geldie McCilister of Boston was beaten unconscious by three men on a city street late in the afternoon. Thomas J. Fenton a railroad machinist and Ac. FF. uenew a machinists' helper were arrested and charged with taking part in the attack. McCilister was mistaken for someone else.
A report from Corpus Christi notes Angel Jack Teeters, son of Arthur Racers, was among several youths involved in a late night incident on a residential street. The Dallas to Corpus Christi transfer appears to be a detail in the evolving account of the event.
Unofficial returns from 269 precincts in Arkansas show Governor T. McRae leading Democratic gubernatorial candidate KE P Toney by about 10,000 votes. Early tallies indicate McRae carried about one fifth of counties with 16,000 votes to Toney's 6,519.
Dallas report says an attack on a machinist’s helper at Texarkana Texas by two men occurred Monday. J A Somerville railroad manager says attempts to peek shop workers at Big Spring last week were unsuccessful according to another report.
