Russian forces stormed into Orel, a key Nazi hub, and fought street battles as they swept forward from the northeast. Amarilloan Kills Ex Wife Then Himself in Tragic Shooting

In Amarillo a divorced man, L L Gardner, shot and killed his ex wife Estelle Gardner and wounded bystander Miss Gene LaVail before shooting himself. The couple had been divorced since March and lived near 611 North Harrison Street. Police say Gardner aged about 50 died from a self-inflicted wound. coroner's verdict lists murder followed by suicide.
