Chicago Boy Kidnapped. $5,000 Ransom Demanded
Donald Horst two and a half, son of Otto and Mrs. Horst, was seized from his mother on Chicago's northwest side by two men and a woman. A $5,000 ransom was demanded. Neighbor Joseph Immel Jr. provided the car license. Arthur Humberg loaned the vehicle and was taken into custody as police expected quick arrests. Mrs. Horst fought to protect her child as the kidnapers fled in a blue sedan.

Former Amarillo priest killed in Chicago car crash
Rev. John J. Neff a Catholic priest from San Angelo and formerly of Amarillo died in a Chicago suburb after a collision that killed two others and injured several. The accident in Bloom Township left his mother with injuries and claimed relatives including his uncle John Harrington. Neff, 31, ordained in 1934 by Bishop Robert E. Lucey, had been assigned to Sacred Heart parish in San Angelo since May 1936 and planned a short visit to Amarillo before returning.

J Ross Trout a 45 year old farmer was killed yesterday when his automobile collided with a truck near Matador. He was riding with his brother Buster Trout of Wichita Kansas.
Four believed dead in Pan American flying boat wreck
Submarine S-46 reported finding two mail bundles and an uninflated life boat in the Pan American Grace Airways wreck off Panama. None of the 14 passengers and crew were located, all believed dead. Four Die in Childress Highway Wreck Near Tell Community
A sedan wreck south of Childress on Highway 4 killed four people and left a fifth in critical condition. Victims are Cott Garrison 25 John Byrnes 37 Mrs. John Byrnes about 30 and Mrs. Zara Ashby about 30, all Tell residents. Survivor Jewell Smith was treated for chest injuries and fractures. The crash occurred after a swim trip to Paducah when steering gear failure may have caused the vehicle to strike a concrete bridge abutment. a second car struck the wreckage but did not injure others. Funeral plans were announced for Ashby. Garrison’s and Byrnes’ arrangements were pending.
