Plane Crash Kills Memphis Man Near Childress Radio Tower
Kenneth Don Bownds 27 of Memphis died when his two seat Piper Super Cruiser struck the KCTX radio tower near Childress while circling prior to a 11 30 a.m. takeoff from Childress Airport. The plane wrecked in a cotton field close to the 200 foot structure. Broadcasting remained on air. Bownds, born Sept 11 1933 in Dalhart, was a former Amarillo resident and a transmission repair mechanic. Funeral service set for 4 p.m. Thursday at the Memphis Church of Christ with burial in Fairview Cemetery.
