Roswell Deputy Killed In Home Shooting Near Welch Farm
Rafe Donahoo, 62, chief deputy sheriff of Chaves County and longtime New Mexico peace officer, was shot and killed by James Welch at Welch’s home 20 miles south of Roswell. Welch, who invited the officers in, declared he would kill them and fired after a struggle, prompting a posse to detain him. Welch is jailed without bond on first degree murder charges as Sheriff Peck and others vow protection. Donahoo had served over 40 years in Chaves County law enforcement and lived in Roswell for half a century.

Slow soaking rains drench Panhandle into New Mexico and Oklahoma
Slow, soaking rains continued Sunday across the Panhandle and bordering New Mexico and Oklahoma, totaling about 1.5 inches in northwest Texas. Amarillo saw 0.56 inches over the weekend with a 75 degree high and 68 degree low, while Clovis and Hereford reported heavy precipitation and waterlogged streets. Funeral services for R B Masterson 77 were held at the family home on Polk Street with interment at Llano Cemetery. The Episcopalian clergy Rev dAoylan Bird and Rev F A Foster led the rites. Amarillo resident since 1910, he built a Wheeler County ranch in the 1880s and spent over 50 years in cattle business. Funeral arrangements were by N B Griggs and Sons.

Denver Plane Arrives After Storm Hold Up
The first Western Airpress plane from Denver on Amarillo’s north south air mail route landed at the English airport at 12 10 p m after about 24 hours in Pueblo. The Amarillo Denver ship left Sunday amid drizzling rain and carried 49 pounds of mail.
