Contractors say the first Santa Fe line train over the Borger route will run Sunday August 15 as rails advance at one mile quarter per day. The Isom depot 763 by 75 feet with 560 foot platform expands to support freight, with tracks on both sides for efficient loading and unloading.
The cornerstone ceremony at Eleventh and Harrison marked the placement of the Central Presbyterian Church in Amarillo. Dr. R Thomson led the service with local ministers present, and Dr G L Yates delivered the principal address. A time capsule included a Bible, charter, annual reports, resolutions, coinage, church history, photos, and a News-Globe issue. First services are planned for March.
The first spike for the Rock Island line from Amarillo to Liberal was driven by Col. C. T. Herring before hundreds. William Holt a hotel porter was arrested by Burns Detective L F Crimm and jailed for investigation after the Sunday night theft of 26 dollars clothing and jewelry from guest G H Lane. trousers with the money were found hidden in a hotel toilet. Holt had 17 dollars in his pockets at arrest and more robberies at local hotels are being investigated with arrests expected. Joe Wendells recently joined the Burns Detective agency.
