Two Men Held for Slayings at Brownfield
Special to The News. Brownfield, Aug. 1. A Terry county grand jury returned four murder and assault to murder indictments against W. M. Ward owners of a ranch south of here for the April 21 slaying of H. Windham and for actions during a posse stand off. Ward has been in Lubbock jail since April. The jurors also charged J. P. Crowley with murder in the stabbing of Alex Hock at a local drug store crowd watching election returns. Hock died after five stab wounds. Crowley was captured within hours and jailed nearby.

E L McKenzie district agent for Magnolia Petroleum and E Lee Brown Lubbock representative were seriously injured when their light roadster rolled several times after the left rear wheel collapsed six miles from Littlefield. McKenzie suffered internal injuries and broken ribs while Brown had brain concussion and a broken wrist. both were taken to Littlefield then to Lubbock for treatment. The pair were bound for Amherst Lamb county for an all day celebration. Eyewitnesses said speeds were around 35 mph.
