Amarillo residents are urged to attend a 4 PM mass meeting at the Chamber hall to hear details on a new railroad from Amarillo through Oklahoma into Kansas. Company representatives will discuss surveys and a tangible proposition toward construction, urging broad public participation for Amarillo’s future.
Calgary reports Northwest Mounted Police capture Will Ropp after a 2000 mile pursuit through northern Canada. Ropp, described as the region’s most notorious cattle rustler and horse thief, confessed to numerous crimes and said many offenses eluded memory.
The Department of Commerce reports Texas produced 27.4 percent of U.S. cotton in 1911, totaling 4,297,248 bales, up 1,224,316 bales or 20.6 percent from 1910. U.S. total output reached 16,250,276 bales, up 4,244,388 bales or 35.4 percent from 1910.
Generally fair conditions expected Friday with mild temperatures in the 60s to mid 80s. High around 84 at 7 a.m. and evening low near 62 with light winds. Absolute figures show a daily temperature spread and small precipitation chance around 5 percent.

They elected six delegates-at-large to the national convention and adopted a platform favoring initiative, referendum and recall, direct election of senators, woman’s suffrage, and primary nomination of all elective officials. The Bull Moose was adopted as the party emblem.
New York state chairman William M. Hotchkiss says a woman will likely be one of the at large delegates to the Progressive party national convention. The three other at large seats will probably go to Oscar Straus Henry L. Stoddard and either Chauncey J. Namlin or Virgil L. Kellog.
President Taft’s informal White House address to Republican leaders in the East Room is seen as the campaign’s key note. Cabinet members and others expect the speech to be used as a campaign document and broadcast. Senator Root officially notified Taft of renomination as the affair ran informally.

Nashville August 1 Roosevelt supporters in Tennessee prepare to hold a State convention in the city tomorrow. The gathering is expected to name candidates for governor and railroad commissioner and to select delegates to the national convention in Chicago.
Justices Van ceventer and Pitney of the U.S. Supreme Court granted a writ of error in the Kansas primary election case. The ruling allows Roosevelt candidates or presidential electors to appear on the primary ballot while the final validity of their nomination rests with the full court at its next session. Also notes Baltimore railway expansion. The Western Maryland Railway opens a 57 mile Cumberland to Connellsville extension, linking with the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie line.
Washington August 3 the Democratic Progressive Republican tariff alliance takes full Senate conference control over the Wood Sugar and Excise Tax bills, signaling early resolution of tariff differences. The lineup includes La Follette Bailey Simmons Penrose Lodge and Bristol with Bailey as Excise Tax chair.
Washington reports Congress passed an urgency appropriation resolution to extend June and July government appropriations for another half month. By August 15 officials expect annual appropriation bills to be enacted.

Washington August 1 Col John Conklin long serving officer and commander of the Second Field Artillery at Vancouver Barracks was placed on the retired list today on his own application. Conklin hails from New York and was granted West Point in 1804.
Colorado Day marking the thirty sixth anniversary of statehood was observed in Denver with city offices and banks closed. Marine civic organizations conducted appropriate exercises under civic auspices.
Associated Press reports from El Paso that 200 prominent residents were interviewed. Of those, 270 favored intervention in Mexico by the United States. Those opposing armed intervention criticized the State Department's attitude toward Latin American troubles.
Douglas, Aug 1. John Hurtlin and Guido Shubert were hanged at Monte Vista, Sonora, a week ago. Bodies indicate they were German natives. Hurtlin had original papers for American citizenship. Hurtlin was a Monte Vista mine watchman and Shubert his guest. German friends in Douglas sent a man to Monte Vista to report to the German ambassador in Washington.
Washington reports a serious clash between government and rebel forces in Sonora may occur soon. Rebels at Casas Grandes are stronger with artillery and seized supplies from American colonists. The State Department notes many appeals for protection and pins hopes on non intervention.
Passengers arrive in Juarez report that 1,500 Federals entered the town before the rebels evacuated. The train from Madera, an American lumbering center, was perhaps the last to come from that district.
Washington reports the parcel post system recently agreed between the United States and the Republic of Panama is now in operation. The weight and other terms align with U S and European country agreements.

Six passenger cars and one express car arrive for the Dallas Waxahachie Interurban Line. The cars match the Dallas Fort Worth fleet and are described as modern. The line is set to begin operation by September 1.
