Oklahoma City July 31 The August 12 runoff features Thomas Gore against C J Wrightsman for the U S Senate and William H Murray versus Frank Buttram for the governorship. Early returns show Gore leading Wrightsman 65 528 to 65 029 in 8108 of 3338 precincts with Murray ahead of Buttram by more than 60 000 votes. Other leaders include Henry S Johnston Lee Cruce and J B A Robertson as the field narrows. Final totals expected near 340 000 votes.

Special to The News from Canyon reports the Panhandle Plains Historical Society Museum gains two 1897 Plainview photos loaned by Judge L. Gough of Amarillo. One shows an 1893 Dimmitt hotel moved to Plainview by eight wagons, guided by 32 horses, and hauled by freighter R. M. Irick. The other captures Plainview’s west square circa 1897 with a row of small frame stores and the two story Central Hotel among them.

City employe loses arm in underpass accident
Sam Farris city employee lost his left arm in an underpass mishap on East Third Street Thursday afternoon. A truck backing down the hill crushed him between the truck and a power shovel brace, severing his arm twice. He was rushed to St Anthony's Hospital and later amputated near the shoulder. doctors reported no great internal injury risk.
