Slaton plans a June 14 Frontier Day with official costumes from the gay nineties. Beards are to grow from May 15, with city development board members leading from May 1. Prizes of 100, 50 and 25 dollars will be awarded for winning parade floats. Robert E. Ayers serves as overall chairman.
Marselete Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wilson of Canyon, wed Technical Sgt. Robert H. Kanig, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. O. O’Hara of Lake Charles, La., in Clovis. The home ceremony was led by Rev. Claud A. Lorts with music by Betty Snyder and Imogene Wood. The couple will reside in San Antonio where Kanig is stationed.
Texline says Sergeant Crumpton, who served in the 25th Infantry Division in Korea, is back in the States on rotation after duty elsewhere. He holds the rank of sergeant and recently completed a tour.
An Army soldier recently headed for Korea is described as having entered service in December 1950 and served at Fort Hood Texas prior to deployment. The item notes his unit as the 35th Tank Company and confirms his departure last August for overseas duty.
Dalhart reports the death of Sgt. Menno Wells, cousin of Mrs. Morse, in a motorcycle crash en route from Walker Air Base Roswell to Chanute Field. Wells, a World War II veteran, is buried in Hooker beside his mother. Survived by wife Wilma and two children Jimmy and Tommy.
Scientists have concluded there is no exact definition of a living organism. The study notes the complexity of life and the challenge of a universal criterion for what counts as alive.
Pfc. Troy E. Andrews of Canada serves with the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. He is a machinist in the headquarters company of the 17th Infantry Regiment which arrived in Korea last March. Andrews attended Canadian High School before enlisting.
Miss Mary Ellen Williams and Bill Weatherbee wed in Childress in a parlor ceremony led by Rev. B J Martin. The couple, both 1950 graduates of Childress High, plan to live in Childress where Weatherbee farms Union Flat. A dinner hosts the couple before the ceremony with Riviera Ware gifts.
On the muddy Rio Grande at Brownsville April 29 the river remains the week’s top attraction for locals and visitors as it continues to flow.
Funeral services for Mrs. Katie Clayton of Amarillo will be held at 10 this morning in Blackburn-Shaw Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jack W. Sisemore officiating. Burial follows in Clarendon cemetery. She died yesterday at St. Anthony's Hospital after a stroke at home. Surviving: two sons J. B. Hymie Clayton of Amarillo and Gordon Clayton of Houston, daughter Mrs. M. L. Montgomery of Amarillo, sister Mrs. R. M. McCrary of Dallas, and six grandchildren.
Burglars stole an assortment of loot including three watches a pistol and a ring from the home of Marvin over the weekend. Police are investigating and seeking leads.
Police said burglars smashed a rear door at Rubin, 138 North La Salle, yesterday. Detectives reported items stolen include a pocket watch two wrist watches a diamond ring a 38 caliber pistol and a set of golf clubs.
Funeral arrangements are pending for Ed Husky 53 a former Amarillo resident who died Monday in a Fort Worth hospital. He lived in Amarillo until 1944 and worked with the Russell Blind Company in Fort Worth. Survivors include two sisters Mrs Ozo Palmer and Mrs C M Brannas of Amarillo and a brother J A Husky and a sister Mrs Al Russell both of Fort Worth.
Van Nuys California April 29 health inspector Al Bader said a dead bobcat head and pelt caused a foot bite when he stepped on a rug. He claimed the bobcat had been shot by him 10 years earlier and called the incident revenge.
