Secretary of Agriculture Benson reported the two day Great Plains tour showed conditions worse than anticipated though not as bad as the 1930s. He cited severe distress in southeastern Colorado western Texas eastern New Mexico and said relief programs will continue where needed. He noted overall farm finance has improved yet reserves are depleted or near exhaustion and commented on criticism from a farm group while excluding reinstating federal crop insurance in nine drought affected counties.

A Brink's armored truck guard reports a semitrailer carrying $250000 in freshly minted half dollars spilled on Highway 169 near PETER Minn. The floorboards failed, coins spilled for about a half mile, motorists scooped up coins but most were recovered. two thirds returned. The money was en route from the Denver mint to the Minneapolis Federal Reserve Bank.
Continental Airlines provides one hundred kites for youngsters entering the Globe News ninth flying contest. The event starts at 2 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Park with registration at 1:30 p.m. Those without a kite can get one at registration and must supply tail and string. Each entrant receives a kite. winners who make their own kites earn double cash prizes.
In Covington Kentucky four men were wounded during a shooting at the Louisville and Nashville Decoursey yards. Victims include William Hensley a bystander and three L N employees Richard Courtney Roger Martin and Archie Webster. Courtneys account says pickets halted the truck and a shot hit the cab. B W O Brien claims the first shot came from the picket line as the truck approached.
The U S Coast and Geodetic Survey said a moderate quake occurred near Adak in the Aleutian Islands.

Funeral services for David Rasco will be held at 10 30 a m tomorrow at Polk Street Methodist Church with Dr Eugene Slater officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery under Blackburn Shaw direction. Rasco died of a heart attack Wednesday night and leaves family in shock as condolences flow in from state officials editors and friends.
