A two day prairie fire effort in northeastern Panhandle counties ended at noon with most flames controlled. Lightning sparked blazes across at least 10 ranches, destroying five to fifteen sections on several properties including the Frank McMordie and D. F. Urschel ranches, while no cattle or homes were reported lost. Firefighters used backfires, plowed guards, and water trucks to battle the flames amid high winds.
