Blame Lightning for Outbreak of Sweeping Fires

Prairie fires across Canadian area burned an estimated 29 000 acres. Lightning is blamed for starting the blazes, with winds fanning the flames and firefighters working to control and halt spread. No cattle or buildings reported lost. several ranches suffered fencing and grassland damage.

A regular meeting of the Amarillo Civil Air Patrol unit will be held tomorrow night at 8 o'clock in the dining room of Amarillo Air Terminal. Executive officer Dr. W. O. 35 Americans Dead In US Air Force Crash Near Tokyo

Burned wreckage of a US Air Force C 54 transport on Hiragatake peak 37 miles southwest of Tokyo killed 35 Americans with no survivors. Victims include Frank E. Pickelle and Capt. John C. Jones. Rescue teams from the First Cavalry Division found bodies scattered over 200 to 300 yards after the crash following a rainstorm near Tachikawa airbase.

Grand Jury Studies Will Again Thursday

The Lipscomb County grand jury will reconvene Thursday to hear more testimony in an alleged forged will case involving Matilda Lipscomb area figures. Vivian Guthrie of Edgewood Illinois and seven others face charges. Roy Lansing says Guthrie posted bond after a full statement.
