An early Sunday natural gas explosion at a Piedras Street San Antonio Street complex in El Paso collapsed seven apartments and killed seven people. In Merced California the suspect known as Nob Hill Rapist shot dead Nancy Chalberg 55 and Helen Cramer 65 before being captured after a 500 mile pursuit across Lake Tahoe the Bay Area and rural Mariposa County. Bunyard 28 was wounded and captured after a police sergeant fired as a frantic husband tackled him during a head to head confrontation.

Two men died after an antenna touched a high voltage line at a Magic City home Sunday night. Scott William McAfee, 20, of Amarillo and Don Burrell, 23, of Magic City, were pronounced dead at the scene. They had been welding classmates from Amarillo College when the line fell on them. Stanley Ryan of McLean and Ryan wore rubber gloves. Ryan suffered minor burns. Justice of the Peace Cecil Amerson called the deaths, and the bodies were sent to Richerson Funeral Home in Shamrock.
In Williamsburg Michigan state officials warn gas eruptions could reach Grand Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan threatening underwater life. Evacuations cover 85 area families as geologist Dyer notes gas follows creek bottoms toward the bay. Amoco denies blame while taking steps to reduce pressure and prevent explosions.
Richard C. Ware and Charles T. Ware, longtime leaders of Amarillo National Bank, died within hours of each other at home. Funeral services set for 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church. The bank will close 10 to 12 today as pallbearers honored the brothers who guided the bank since the 1930s.
A front end loader at Randall County Feed Yards northeast of here crushed by several tons of corn silage, killing 21 year old Barry Bishop a West Texas State University student from Megargel. Deputy reports say the silage toppled the loader crushing the cab and pinning him inside.
