A 52 year old Ford worker Nelson Davis was ordered held in temporary detention in Detroit for questioning in the Walter Reuther shooting. Prosecutor James McNally said Davis may know the shooter but no charges were filed. Davis denied the claim, while three other UAW-CIO Ford workers were also questioned.

Diver Entombed by Mud Rescued After 3% Hours
A 49 year old diver Edward Christiansen of Oyster Bay NY was trapped for three and a half hours in mud and silt at the bottom of New York harbor while laying a telephone cable from Port Richmond Staten Island to Bayonne NJ. He directed his own rescue by telephone and was brought to safety about 30 feet above in fair condition. Fifteen divers including Navy personnel and civilians aided the rescue as crowds watched near the Bayonne ferry slip. A dredge nearly triggered an explosion but a tug intervened to halt the blast just in time.
