Eight year old Jackie Glenn Darden, who walks in his sleep, was named by his father as the killer of his mother Mrs. 8 P Darden in Greenville Texas. He testified before Hunt County grand jury while investigators probe the tragic case and the coroner’s verdict is withheld.
Governor James V. Allred, back in Texas after a Washington trip, reiterates strong opposition to the pending federal oil control bill. He says Texas lawmakers will not permit the measure, calling it a potential step toward regimentation of all business and extending beyond oil to other industries.
Police seek a thief calling himself Blackshirt who stole cash from a Salt Lake City store and left notes claiming more dough is hidden. The first message said Blackshirt has been here and next time have more dough, the second urged keep it Black shirt.
Forecast for Amarillo and West Texas regions calls for mostly cloudy skies with a chance of light showers Tuesday. New Mexico expected to be partly cloudy with little temperature change. Temperatures by hour yesterday show a maximum around 88 and minimum near 78.

A Guymon Oklahoma booster delegation of about 100 will visit Amarillo to promote the Guymon Pioneer Day celebration on May 2. The group, led by the Guymon Cowboy Band, will be greeted at the north city limit by Mayor Ross D. Rogers and other civic leaders. They will march through downtown with a police escort and attend a Lions Club luncheon at the Amarillo Hotel with Frank DeWolf as program chairman.
Chester Goodwin a 33 year old Dallas man died in Beaumont after being found unconscious under the Neches River bridge. He had skull fracture from a blow and was bitten by many mosquitos. His brother Clarence said Chester left Dallas to take a pipeline job in Beaumont and traveled there to investigate the death.
The Amarillo Chamber of Commerce seeks a 30000 budget with 200 volunteers gathering at 5 p.m. in the Red Room of the Amarilo Hotel to report by divisions. Officials say volunteer recruitment has gone well and no solicitors have been refused. The meeting offers a preview of how Amarillo and the Panhandle may share in a federal public works program amid a citywide drive culminating in a Victory Dinner Friday night.

A blaze in Seminole destroyed a quarter of the business section after an explosion at the Palace cafe sparked the fire. Damages were about $30,000 as bucket brigades failed without city water. The Palace cafe owned by Ed Price started the fire, spreading to a two story frame hotel, the county’s oldest building from 1905.
