Washington April 21 The American Red Cross volunteer special services have grown from 53000 women when war began in 1939 to an enrollment today of 1000000. Mrs Dwight Davis head of the services cited figures to 5000 delegates at the convention. She listed the work: knitted nearly 5000900 garments sewn 3200000 more made 21000000 surgical dressings and tens of thousands took first aid training. She urged redoubling efforts saying the country faces a grave situation and volunteering is like military draft service.
