In the Panhandle area two people are dead and another injured after highway incidents. The events involve the New Rock Island Trunkline and begin work within thirty days. The route covers about 100 miles with Frisco’s section from Shamrock to Beaver Creek.
Interstate Commerce Commission grants Rock Island and Frisco permits to build about 200 miles from Shamrock to Fort Worth via Wellington Quanah and Seymour linking with the Gulf Texas and Western. Santa Fe gains an 8 mile extension. Fort Worth and Denver denied. Construction to begin within 30 days with aim to handle the 1981 grain crop and provide an intra state route to the Gulf Coast improving transit and rates for Panhandle farmers.
Fair conditions expected for Amarillo and vicinity on Tuesday with partly cloudy skies across West Texas. New Mexico forecast shows generally fair conditions with little temperature change. Local hourly readings are garbled. overall temperatures indicate a warm day with notable highs in the afternoon.
Amarillo launches immediate fundraising to secure right of way for the Santa Fe line heading north through Potter County. A special committee's three week review of property owners endorsed raising 50 000 dollars now, with the Chamber of Commerce directing action and press coverage to back the drive.
Seats for the Freiburg Passion Play in Amarillo on April 29 and 30 go on sale at the News-Globe office today. Reservations have been available, but buyers after today may select seats and pick up tickets. The production drew 3,000 turned away in February and demand remains high.

Big Spring was selected as the next meeting site.
Lamesa a spring cleanup during the April term of the grand jury. In the first week 17 indictments were returned against owners of alleged jake joints and gambling houses. One murder indictment also returned. Jury term called one of the county’s most effective. Indictments also against three Lameeans for peddling extracts.
Two Panhandle residents died and a third person remained hospitalized after a Sunday highway crash 19 miles east of Tucumcari. Mrs. Nathan Johnson of Farwell died in a Tucumcari hospital from injuries. Fort Rose Lawrence, 80, of Borger, died at St Anthony's hospital. Sylvia Taylor of Farwell, the driver, suffered a broken ankle. Nathan Johnson and M C Atchley of Farwell escaped uninjured.
Architects from Amarillo and other Texas cities meet Potter County commissioners to discuss hiring an architect to develop plans for a new courthouse. The group will hear multiple proposals before any contract is signed, with Page Brothers of Austin among the early entrants.
London reports the death of Robert Bridges 86 England's poet laureate after a brief illness at his residence Chilwell House Boars Hill near Oxford. Funeral plans are private.
Abilene Texas April 21 United Press reports a fatal crash six miles south of Lawn left two seven year old children dead Courtney Brice and Eldridge Smith. Five more people were hospitalized in critical or serious condition including Mr and Mrs Smith and their daughter Laverne. The seven victims were in the Smith car when it collided head on with the bus attempting to pass a third vehicle.
Rosaline Price 15 of Corsicana Texas died in Carlsbad New Mexico from injuries after being struck by a car driven by fellow high school student Fred Melnnis of Carlsbad. She was visiting her aunt Mrs. M W Evans of Artesia.
Will Rogers makes a brief stop at English Field en route to Ponca City to join ceremonies for the unveiling of the pioneer woman statue. The humorist traveled with Western Air Express and was quickly carried to a Lockheed Vega plane, amid crowd chatter and plans for his speech.
A vast fire swept four cell blocks at the Ohio Penitentiary in Columbus killing about 290 inmates with 100 more dying in the hospital and more than 1000 convicts loose in the yards. Troops guards and police fought to control the riot like scene as incendiary origins were suspected and authorities ordered additional National Guard and Army units to the scene.
The Amarillo school board awarded the third and fourth contracts from the $550,000 bond issue for additions to the public school system. The Pleasant Valley School addition and a manual training unit at Buchanan Junior High were let to Lambie Construction Company of Amarillo for $18,622 and $18,194 respectively, totaling $36,816.
