Thirteen people were killed instantly and two injured probably fatally in a tornado in Arkansas. The report notes 11 victims are African American. Officials reported the casualties as of April 21 with details still developing.
Three Black residents died and 25 people, including two whites, were injured as a tornado hit the Daho mey area near Tillar Mississippi and cut a 100 yard swath through the Tillar Plantation Company property. Reports say the plantation is large and that damage may extend to other sections. No injuries reported near Crowdon Spur north of Wham Louisiana.
Enos Cloyd of Pampa 18 leaped from a cabin plane at English-Bivins air port yesterday at 6 pm. The chute opened immediately and he landed in the Bivins pasture. Night leap planned at 11 pm would be first in the Panhandle. Aerial stunts and moonlit passenger flights drew a large crowd.
Havana reports the Cuban government has tripled the workforce on the new national capitol to finish by the May 20 dedication date. The target date remains May 20 with the building advancing under government direction.
The Mississippi River levee at Canton Missouri broke under flood waters from tributaries. Over 200 homes flooded and rail service halted with no known loss of life. The Fabius River levee breach nearby inundated 4000 acres of farmland and prompted dynamiting to balance flood waters.

Gen Urbalejo, Yaqui revolt leader, entered the United States from Agua Prieta and declared himself finished with the Mexican revolution. His Yaqui troops, estimated 600 to 1,000, have abandoned Agua Prieta and moved toward the Yaqui reservation near Fronteras. Federal forces, about 20,000 seasoned by two months of fighting, massed at Casas Grandes and San Blas, prepared to rout the rebels in Sonora this week.
John A. Rollins, for Frick and Company, arrived in Amarillo to study building a dry ice plant using natural gas. He has authority to secure options while in the city, with board approval pending. Local officials back the inquiry and expect it may lead to future business in Amarillo.
William Spry, long time Utah governor and land office commissioner, died in Washington after a paralyzing stroke. He had just joined the interior department oil conservation committee to aid President Hoover's policy. Spry, governor 1909 to 1917, served as U.S. marshal for Utah and led state land boards before becoming interior department official in 1921. His body to be taken to Salt Lake City. widow Mary Wrathall of Grantsville survives.
Laredo Tex April 21 The motive the state will seek to establish in the trial of two police officers for the shooting of Harry Williams 24 year old Laredo newspaper reporter has not been divulged today but persons close to the case believe the prosecution may argue that Williams was killed while officers attempted to arrest him on a minor charge perhaps unintentionally.
The Southwest region suffered at least seven deaths and extensive damage from tornadoes and floods over the week end. From northern Texas into Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, and Kansas the storms caused widespread flooding, road and rail disruption, and numerous injuries. Reece Kansas and Bolivar Missouri were severely affected with homes destroyed and residents sheltered in cellars.
In Washington the Hoover administration frames its five point program for the extra session with farm relief as the priority. Tariff revision immigration act changes and reapportionment follow, while Senate Republicans clash over national origins repeal and tariff scope. The immigration committee opens Tuesday to draft repeal opposed by Hoover, as Nye and Reed realign to block measures. The census authorization and reapportionment bills await the Senate after farm relief.
Preparations are nearly finished for a visit by Wichita Chamber of Commerce members in their Silver Anniversary Trade Ex tension and Good Will tour. The party trains into Santa Fe station at 4 20 p m and departs at 7 a m Wednesday for Roswell. A town parade, auto tour, and 7 30 p m auditorium program featuring the Wichita American Legion band and a male quartet are planned with Mayor Ernest Thompson welcoming the visitors. A dance at the Herring hotel follows.
Voters go to the polls to elect Lester Stone to Commissioner No. 2 in a runoff required by the city charter. Stone leads April 2 with a majority of the votes, while retiring commissioner J O W Harris says he will not oppose Stone in a possible runoff.
Members of the Forty-first Legislature return to Austin as a special session is called to begin tomorrow at noon to consider prison concentration civil service and educational legislation. Gov Moody's message remains lengthy and the civil service proposal failed in the house. Adjournment to Tuesday possible after the message read. Senate may elect a new president pro tempore and the house awaits Speaker Barron. The session hinges on appropriation bills highway funds and tax measures.
Five people were killed and three injured when the Crescent Limited train struck an automobile at a grade crossing in east Gastonia North Carolina. The crash occurred today as the southbound New York to New Orleans train collided with the car, leaving several victims, one perhaps fatally wounded.
Cincinnati dispatch reports lightning struck near Walton Kentucky during a baseball event injuring several boys. Howard Rusk and Clifford Sander both 11 were killed when a barn adjacent to the park caught fire. John Hartman 37 Walton was badly shocked.
A passenger air liner collided with an army ship on Sunday, causing damage and prompting emergency responses. Authorities are investigating the incident to determine causes and any casualties.
Six people died when a Maddux Air Line liner bound for Phoenix and an army pursuit plane collided near a canyon in eastern San Diego at about 2 000 feet. Dead are Lieut Howard Keefer pilot of the pursuit plane Mortis Murphy and Louis D Pratt pilots of the liner Arturo Guajardo passenger Miss Amelia Guajardo Cecilia Kelly passenger and two girls died shortly after. Keefer attempted to parachute but became entangled and fell with the plane. Authorities say cause is under investigation and many witnesses saw the crash after church services. Keefer had been recalled to active service and had helped fly the Question Mark project earlier.
Darwin April 21. The Kookaburra plane that disappeared ten days ago with Lieut. Keith Anderson and Robert Hitchcock aboard was found in the Tanimi desert. The Kookaburra aided the search for Capt. Charles Kingsford Smith and his three companions aboard the Southern Cross, which went down en route from Sydney to Wyndham after last being seen over Alice Springs.
Amarillo mayor announces open city commission meeting at City Auditorium to discuss forming a chamber of commerce. The goal is a multi thousand member body linking business, crafts and local groups with county surroundings. The commission would back elected chamber directors as City Development Board leaders if the move gains citizen support.
