Two city men escaped with minor injuries after a car slammed at 11:15 p m Tuesday into three adjoining business fronts at 615 to 621 West 8th Street, igniting and causing smoke and fire damage. Driver John W Hirsch 26 was treated for second degree burns. passenger James T Kitchens 28 was unharmed aside from singed hair. The vehicle left 197 feet of skid marks, struck a utility pole breaking it, ruptured the gas tank, and overturned along the sidewalk before firefighters contained the blaze at the Woodruff Moore Motley Insurance Co. and nearby offices.

Dr James P Cornette president of West Texas State University said the Texas College Coordinating Committee’s recommendation that WTSU be designated a college would have no immediate effect. He noted the change is administrative and would not alter the school's name without legislative action. Local representative J M Red Simpson expressed support for board coordination and vowed to watch the issue to protect WTSU interests.
A tornado dropped from a rainstorm and brushed an elementary school in a southwest Kansas City Kansas suburb injuring four people. It damaged or destroyed at least 28 homes in a three block area, with reports of 69 homes affected. The new housing development near Overland Park saw students leaving Catherine Carpenter Grammar School as the twister struck. A metropolitan emergency alert may have saved lives.
Severe weather swept North Central Texas with thunderstorms and tornado reports Tuesday night. Twisters touched down near Chalk Mountain and in the Hico Iredell Meridian area while hail fell near Fort Worth. The Dallas Fort Worth metro area faced a severe weather warning as a line of storms moved through Pilot Point to Walnut Springs.

He argues private operators cannot profit under federal mass transit aid rules and says a city bus could cost the city about six thousand dollars versus twenty thousand for a private operator.
