Eleven Killed and38 Lost In French Mine Disaster
Eleven miners were killed by a coal dust explosion in a mine south of Lille. Thirty eight miners are missing and 40 are known to be trapped alive. The entrance at Sal laumines 15 miles from Lille was sealed. Two hundred seventy seven miners were rescued through a connecting shaft. The explosion occurred around 6 PM and some bodies were blown 30 yards from their work sites. A steel trestle above ground shifted from the blast.
