Farm agents will receive fund blanks today enabling farmers to begin listing within a few hours after submitting applications. The development aims to speed up aid distribution and reduce delays for eligible applicants.
Federal and state officials authorize a $500000 emergency grant covering 5395000 acres in 46 Panhandle Plains counties. Farmers will fill applications with county agents for listing and treatment contracts with 10 cents per acre, deadline May 1, to establish soil protection and fuel or feed support.
Beverly Hills columnist recalls a Parsons Kansas message asking to enter a hog calling contest. He jokes that hog prices have risen so high that even Henry Ford with money could not lure them, and his morning howling yielded only three slices of bacon.

Charles Hopkins a federal prisoner en route to Leavenworth escaped today from C V Kern deputy marshal and guards in Kansas City Missouri after breakfast at a restaurant. Hopkins was serving a five year sentence on a mail robbery charge and fled through a rear door.
An unidentified well dressed man was shot to death tonight by three assailants firing seven bullets from a passing automobile near a North Side Chicago police station. The slaying occurred in the evening, adding to a spate of violent incidents in the area.
Colorado, Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas plan a joint appeal to President Roosevelt on Thursday to back the Caddoa Dam in Colorado, Conchas Dam in New Mexico, and El Reno Dam in Oklahoma. The $23 million cost, largely for labor, aims to spur jobs after recent dust storms. Arch Hurley of Tucumcari argues Conchas dam would supply Amarillo’s water and trigger 500 family relocations.
Port Arthur police halted a picket by the Seamen's Union at the Seamen's Church Institute. The union had been concentrating on steering seamen into local union employment through the institute's employment bureau.

New Jersey Attorney General David T. Wilentz disclosed 97000 dollars in unpaid bills tied to the Hauptmann Lindbergh trial. He expects to recover 75000 dollars from the state and urged witnesses to reduce their charges.

Lioa Winfield Chase 87, noted Panhandle builder and former owner of Amarillo and Clarendon power plants, died at 5 this morning of a heart attack after two days of illness. He was a leading state citizen. Funeral set for 3 p.m. Wednesday from the family home with Rev. R. S. Meec officiating. Burial in Citizen's Cemetery. Pallbearers listed as A. H. Baker, Stewart, W. W. Taylor, Odos.
Cincinnati April 16 veteran detective Harry Fergus was struck in the eye by a flying piece of cake tossed by a child during a family moment. He was treated at a hospital and continues investigating the cake’s origin.
Plainview April 16 Miss Ara West of Childress was chosen queen of the eighth annual Texas Panhandle Plains Dairy Show. Coronation ceremonies a dairy revue and the queen ball climaxed the second day with West crowned by Joe Vaughn president of the show. The pageant The Sand Man's Symphony was written directed by Wilma Friedsam of Plainview and music by Guy Woods.
Bruce Hensley, radio operator aboard the U S Hanley, began a solo strike in Longview demanding higher wages and a shorter work week. He picketed the Weyerhaeuser Timber Company vessel, and Longshoremen refused to load it in support.
County Attorney Carl H. McGee said Los Angeles officers notified him that E. R. Ferguson, former undersheriff of Pawnee County, was arrested in Los Angeles this morning and held for return to face an embezzlement charge.
Eval Warrick 22, employed at J. E. Warrick Grain Store, died after becoming entangled in a grain mill cleaner belt at 3 30 pm. He suffered skull fracture and leg injuries, pronounced dead en route to hospital. Survived by wife, parents, and two brothers Belman and Lawrence Warrick of Wellington. He was a former high school football and basketball player and senior class president of 1932.
Philadelphia Apr 16 Miss Margaret K Loos believed an Easter card she opened was hers. It bore a March 25 1910 postmark and had been mailed by her former playmate Dorothy Smith now Mrs Robert Miller mother of two children.
Cushings famed seven foot two inch George W. Kennedy national figure and local civic leader died of ptomaine poisoning. He led federal housing administration work in Cushings and drew attention in Chicago’s exposition. A former basketball standout at Ne Chillicothe Missouri business college.
