Gendarmes raided Leon Trotzky's secluded villa near Paris amid fears White Russians might target him. Trotzky was reported hiding all day but later said to be back at the villa. Officials consider expulsion to Corsica and plan cabinet action.
A slow, steady rain spread across Amarillo era area with inch totals in Clovis and Texico. Plainview and Dumas reported light to moderate showers while Hart and Channing saw rainfall. Hale Center near Plainview logged three quarters of an inch.
Chicago April 16 A Texas slogan urged buying as a path out of the low mood. R L Thornton president of Dallas Chamber of Commerce and Mercantile National Bank spoke at a Century of Progress luncheon to a 195 business and newspaper executive delegation en route to Washington. He argued Texas with 6 million people and a 3 billion dollar annual buying power imports over 80 percent of goods consumed and urged industrial growth, predicting more new enterprises and a decade of surpassing development ahead.
A conference of dry land farming experts from five states in Amarillo, responding to wind and insect damage, produced sealed recommendations for soil preservation. Methods include contour listing and strip farming with sorghum, aimed at preventing further deterioration and calling for immediate unified community action.
Robbers struck Willis State Bank for the fourth time, escaping with more than $300. Two armed men fled in a small sedan toward Conroe after forcing bank president L. C. Cooper and cashier L. R. Paddock to the floor. They failed to open the vault safe. cash was mainly from tills. Paddock and Cooper freed the vault from inside and alerted authorities. A prior 1932 robbery netted about $1,000. two earlier thefts preceded that one.
A water soaked mail package identified as from the missing three American fliers airliner was found by a native fisherman on the Hangchow Bay south shore. Fishermen handed it to the company representative who confirmed it had been shipped on the missing plane.
Colorado Springs police announced that George Williams, 21, was positively identified by Colorado College students Miss Georgia Lindley and James O'Brien as one of two black assailants who attacked them. Williams and four others were moved to Canon City prison to prevent mob violence after the identification. O'Brien, 19, visited police with head injuries and was shown nine suspects in custody.

Jolly Garner, brother of Vice-President John Nance Garner, 48, killed himself Saturday. After a simple funeral in El Paso today, his body was sent to Detroit Texas for burial beside his mother and father.

The event drew over fifty judges from 13 schools across four counties with awards to be handed Tuesday.
San Angelo April 16. Coleman County assistant relief administrator Arethur L Lockhart was released on $500 bond after a secret service complaint accusing him of fraud related to CWA disbursements. The charge states he issued 11 checks for 21.60 each between March 1 and April 13 1934 to two individuals directing funds to his personal Coleman service station account.
Albert N. Hutchins arrived from New York to discuss the separation. He says the marriage cannot be annulled after living together and refuses to provide grounds for divorce, asserting Nila must stay married. Nila Hutchins in New York announced plans for an annulment in California.
Fargo, April 16 Nine persons including Gov. William A. Langer were named in indictments by a federal grand jury probing relief workers forced to contribute to political funds. The group faces charges of conspiracy to violate federal statutes. Also named are Oscar Chaput publisher Oscar Erickson and Frank A. listed among others.
The Exilona with Samuel Insull aboard reaches Catania after reduced speed travel to avoid port timing. He is bound for the United States to face criminal trial and will not be allowed to disembark despite sending letters ashore. Insull is under watchful custody of Burton V. Berry at the American embassy in Turkey.
