Seven major cigarette manufacturers agreed to display a health warning in future newspaper magazine and billboard ads. The warning will read Surgeon General has determined that cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health. Not all top firms joined the pact including American Tobacco and Liggett Myers. Senators prepared for quick action on a $6.99 billion two year appropriations bill to fund state programs.
