Immigrant Smuggling Ring Ties Miami Instructor to Cuban Flights

Miami border patrol announced the arrest of wine instructor Edward W Murphy of Miami and three New York City Chinese suspects in a case accusing them of smuggling aliens from Cuba. The group allegedly brought 19 Chinese and four Europeans to the United States via flights from Cuba, Philadelphia and New York, with Murphy releasing on bond as authorities pursue further prosecutions.

First Grader Russell Owen Hurt in Downtown Truck Incident

Russell Owen an 11 year old Wolflin School pupil suffered facial cuts head injuries and lacerations after a truck struck him near the Washington Wolfin intersection yesterday afternoon. He was taken to Northwest Texas Hospital in satisfactory condition by Boxwell Brothers ambulance. The driver 21 year old E Brown stated he was within the speed limit and police said no action would be taken.

Flames Destroy Boathouse at Lake McClellan

Fire at Lake McClellan near Groom and McLean damaged the boathouse and equipment, with losses estimated around 25 000 dollars. Three in board motor boats were saved, but motors air compressors and other gear were lost. Cause of the blaze was not known.

Woman Hit Injured by Car Near Morningside-Fillmore Bus Stop

Mrs J Goff 56 of Snead Tourist suffered possible serious injuries after being struck by a car driven by Virginia T McQuirk 42 Amarillo schoolteacher as she and H L Goff 51 crossed North East Eighth near the 800 block. Goff man had minor injuries and was treated. Mrs Goff was taken to St Anthony Hospital by Baxwell Brothers ambulance. Officers said the incident occurred shortly before 9 PM.
