Secretary Morgenthau warned that the financial log jam is breaking and the country faces a new era of prosperity with cheaper money and looser credit. He spoke in a radio address praising policy shifts and market relief.
Secretary Morgenthau announced on a nationwide broadcast that the financial log jam has been broken. He urged redemption of 1.25 billion dollars of fourth liberty 4 percent bonds and cited substantial savings from refunding and lower interest as evidence of improved money conditions.
Detroit housewives will attend a grand jury session led by Judge Henry Sweeney to probe rising costs of bread milk and other household staples amid accusations of price fixing. Prosecutor Duncan McCrea says investigations may cover meat gasoline and other commodities sold by trade groups. Bread price cuts to 10 cents have begun at some bakeries.

Long withholds session purpose but aides confirm the assembly will convene to organize state machinery for relief funds from federal legislation. He arrives at the governor’s offices in high humor and questions why a special session is needed.
In New Delhi on April 14, communal riots across India killed 19 people including three children burned to death and left at least 35 wounded. The worst fighting occurred at Ferozabad during a Muharram procession when Hindu Moslem tensions flared, police fired 30 rounds to disperse the mob.
Independence Kansas reports two fatal aviation accidents within 24 hours. Lawrence Miles, 30, airport manager, died after his test flight crashed in flames. April 14 Dallas inmates John Bratcher Olin Tyler and Tommy Bryant escaped the Dallas County jail by sawing through a cell lock and climbing down a rope of 26 bed sheets. Bratcher linked to Raymond Hamilton in a Carthage bank robbery. Tyler faces murder charges. Bryant charged with burglary at a local milk plant.
An express train on the Pyrenees Silver coast line wrecked near Marche Prime, France, early today killing three and injuring ten. The Duke and Duchess of Kent avoided the accident by 24 hours, arriving in Paris from Bayonne on the same troubled train, which ran 40 minutes late after a storm toppled trees blocking the tracks.
After a five week trial Judge Nelson urged continued deliberations as the Hamlin jury reported being hopelessly deadlocked at 5 30 Sunday. Foreman Morrison delivered the note as Hamlin remained calm and the jurors were sent back to their dormitory to resume voting.

The Panhandle endured the worst dust storm in history last night. A black cloud rolled over Amarillo at 7:20 with visibility at zero for 12 minutes before clearing. Weatherman H T Collman predicted the storm would end by morning.
White-haired Houston attorney Charles Heidingsfelder Sr and Williamson County farmer Lewis Cernoch were sent to the state prison. Heidingsfelder faces a May 31 electric chair sentence for embezzling $34,500 from a Beaumont client. Cernoch to serve 10 years for embezzlement tied to the same case.
Wiley Post, famed stratosphere flyer, was forced to land at Purdue University Airport due to supercharger trouble while attempting a coast to coast record flight from Burbank to New York. He made a “sweet landing” after circling the field four times, wore a heavy oxygen suit, and reported a stripped clutch on a supercharger. Post previously crashed in Mojave Desert and Cleveland on earlier attempts.
