Sun Oil Co. flowed oil from a wildcat south of Quanah after a drillstem test at 3,276 to 3,?76 feet in the Chappel formation. The test produced oil with 53 gravity, water-free, and powered by electrically driven pumps. The system could move 73,600 gallons per minute, and at peak capacity would take 22 days to fill Amarillo’s reservoir.
An oil operator reported the Sun No. 1 Carrie Minshew wildcat test flowed oil into the pits for 30 minutes and gas surfaced, reaching the top in five minutes. Sun released few details beyond the event and location lies three miles from the nearest town.
Billie Sol Estes and a Chicago loan company official clashed over alleged witness bribery as both sides rested in the bid for a new trial. The 1963 trial ended in Estes receiving a 15 year prison term for mail fraud and conspiracy. Judge Brewster set final arguments for Tuesday afternoon.
