KC Lawmen Hunt Snipers On East Side

U S Cavalry Reclaims Lang Vei After Night Assault
Three U S. 1st Air Cavalry companies withdrew to a bivouac near Lang Vei after finding the Special Forces camp a charnel house of unburied bodies from February fighting. Returning at dawn they met heavy machine gun and rifle fire as North Vietnamese defenders held trenches and ruined bunkers. Cavalrymen retreated under artillery and air bombardment, while several hostile forces fled toward a ridge. Capt Douglas Verdier said they killed many but exact casualties were uncounted, and the attack aimed to cover the retreat of the 325th Division toward the Laotian border two miles west.
