A 37 year old Sherman County wheat farmer Arthur Lee Ross Jr. was killed when his light plane struck a horse two miles northeast of Stratford near the Stratford Airport at about 6 20 p m. The plane clipped the animal and the propeller decapitated it before crashing.

Along the Red River northeast of Vernon, hundreds of acres are being sodded with Coastal Bermuda using a sod planting machine in a SCS farmers cost share. Bermuda sod arrives from Davidson Oklahoma and is planted on land with 32 dollars per acre. 800 miles of shelter belts dot Wilbarger County while irrigation wells reach 72 feet. Groundwater comes from single and multiple hole wells supplying about 300 gallons per minute.
