The April 17 10 am filing deadline was set by 27 of 28 county judges in the district. Absentee voting will begin after printing ballots. County judges will determine ballot order by drawing names in each county. Judge M L West presided and named Gene Jordan as chair. Washington Senator Cain says he may introduce a bill requiring all aliens to take an arms oath before U S citizenship. He notes action depends on the omnibus naturalization and immigration bill and planned his measure if the omnibus stalls. Cain’s DP bill amendment was ruled out as not germane by Vice President Barkley.

Arthur Hendrix a 39 year old Canadian resident died when a seismograph shot line sparked a grass fire and electrocuted him as it blew against him near Waka Texas The Petty Geophysical Engineering Company employed Hendrix for nearly five years and witnesses said wind drove the line into him Ambulance took the body to Perryton and then Canadian for transport to Oklahoma for funeral services Hendrix survived by his wife and a 9 year old son Larry The accident was witnessed by Elmo Clark of the same company and Sheriff Ray Phagan and County Atty Max Boyer investigated

A farm style bread using 16 percent more wheat will be baked for the event.
