Court Upholds Rebellious Witness Jail Suspect in Dual Deaths

A Pecos County deputy announced the 6 year old Pecos River bodies identified as Leta Bell Garton 27 and her daughter Joyce Lynn Roberts 10. Wilbur Garton an ex husband and prominent South Texas liquor dealer was arrested in Corpus Christi on murder warrants and taken to Fort Stockton. Autopsy suggests Joyce choked to death and Leta beaten fatally.

Howe elected head of Tri-State Fair

Gene Howe publisher of The Am ysrillia News-Globe was elected unanimously to the Tri-State Fair presidency to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Wilbur Hawk. The meeting at the Henry Hotel was presided by Mayor Ross D. Rogers with 25 directors present. Ted Taylor announced a New Mexico exhibit building to be erected in Villa-rillo before the 1986 exposition, with Dee Howard of Portales promising timely completion.

Mysterious murder claim linked to Devil's Wash Basin

New Mexico state police pursue an informant’s tale that Ray Sutton, missing since August 28, 1930, was murdered by bootleggers. The story, presented to Gov. Clyde Tingley and police chief FE. J. Death claims Mrs. Ansley in Amarillo hospital

Mrs. Marie Ansley, 39, widow of Amarillo newspaperman Henry Ansley, died after a month of illness in an Amarillo hospital. Born July 6, 1896 in Honey Grove, she moved to Amarillo at age 12, attended Amarillo High, and married in Dallas in April 1919. She had undergone two operations, the second on Saturday, before passing Monday night.
