Rescue teams used avalanche dogs to locate 18 torch bearing skiers buried by a snowslide near Riksgraensen Sweden. All were found alive within two hours and suffered only shock and minor injuries. The victims were guests or instructors at the Hotel Lapplandia and spectators watched the rescue effort.

Artillery Base Repels Viet Cong Assault Near Saigon
A combined Viet Cong and North Vietnamese force of about 640 attacked a U.S. artillery base 30 miles NW of Saigon. The 200 U.S. 25th Division infantry held firm as artillery and air strikes repelled the two hour battle. A fishing party found four Oklahoma residents dead in Lake Texhoma, two men and two boys, with a third boy missing and presumed drowned. The dead are Jack William Gardner 41 and Joseph J. Courtney 50, both of Oklahoma City and El Reno, plus Jack Gardner Jr. 14 and William Courtney about 12. James Gardner, about 12, remains missing. The Skyline Resort operators reported the group checked in Friday night before setting out.

Gunman Fires On Turnpike Killing Two, Injuring Others
Police identified the suspect as Donald M. Lambright, 30, of Philadelphia. Victims include Annette Lambright, 31, and Ignatius Kennan, 50, along with his wife Ruby Kennan, 51, all Philadelphia residents. Seventeen others were injured as bullets shattered windshields on a busy south central Pennsylvania turnpike.
